contacted to help Pit Bulls with chains embedded in their necks; chained to a fence or tree without shelter, food or water; that are emaciated and left behind after a family moves; and from other horrifying, unbelievable situations. For these reasons, a group of individual who own, love and admire these dogs and who have been rescuing "Pit Bulls" on their own for many years decided to incorporate For the Love of PITS. As a group, we can bring awareness to the misconceptions surrounding, and the true nature of, these wonderful dogs. As a group, we can now focus on saving the dogs that are subjected to cruelty, abuse and mistreatment to a degree and on a scale that no other breed of dog has ever had to endure.
We work with various agencies and individuals to rescue and rehabilitate "Pit Bulls" that are deemed "unadoptable" and will likely be euthanized. With rehabilitation, training, personal attention, exercise, medical care and love, most dogs can be successfully matched with a loving new home. We are committed to changing the negative perception of these dogs, to rescuing these dogs and giving them a second chance by finding them loving homes and to providing adoption services and foster care.
For the Love of PITS is a foster-based rescue. We DO NOT have a facility where we house the dogs. We are a very small organization and choose our dogs very, very selectively. We rescue dogs from shelters in Northeast Ohio; WE DO NOT ACCEPT OWNER SURRENDERS.
In 2008, we hope to begin community education to inspire a better understanding and an appreciation of these dogs, to dispel damaging myths and to encourage responsible dog ownership.
