Who We Are:
We are a very small organization.
We choose our dogs
We DO NOT have a
shelter.
We DO NOT accept
For the Love of Pits® is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
Cleveland-based organization run exclusively by volunteers.
We focus our rescue efforts on homeless pit bull
dogs located in Northeast Ohio.
Our mission is to restore, preserve and
protect the prestigious legacy of the pit bull dog and to improve the environment in which pit
bull dogs and their owners live, by:
· Rescuing dogs that are
positive representations of the “breeds,” training them to be well
behaved breed ambassadors and placing them in responsible, safe, loving
and devoted permanent homes;
· Dispelling
damaging myths perpetuated by false, incomplete and deceptive media
reporting and educating the public regarding the true characteristics of
pit bull dogs;
·
Educating the public, including, but not limited to, dog owners,
children and law enforcement professionals, regarding responsible
ownership, safe interactions with dogs and canine communication and
behavior;
·
Providing low cost training classes to owners of pit bull dogs who are
otherwise unable to afford training or who merely want to educate
themselves and train their dogs in a nonjudgmental, friendly and
supportive environment;
·
Providing low cost veterinary services, food and other necessities to
owners of pit bull dogs who are unable to afford such services and
necessities or who are having temporary difficulty caring for their pit
bull; and
·
Providing support to pit bull owners who are being treated unfairly or
being harassed.
Why Pit Bull Dogs?
Second, pit bulls are subjected to
cruelty, abuse and mistreatment both to a degree and on a scale that no
other breed has ever had to endure. They are victimized by an
undeserved reputation created by abusive owners, criminals,
irresponsible owners and, of course, the media.
But for a few organizations, Ohio
shelters have either written or unspoken policies requiring all pit bull
dogs to be killed without any consideration of the dog’s temperament.
Ohio organizations that oppose animal cruelty and encourage more humane
treatment of animals advocate for the killing of all pit bulls. We, at
For the Love of Pits, strongly oppose this hypocrisy. There is no dog
more in need of our compassion, help and advocacy. While the majority
of Ohio animal placement and protection organizations have turned their
backs on these dogs, For the Love of Pits works with very little
support to save their lives and create a better future for them and
their owners
