Dog Shot 5 Times and Left to Die in Phoenix Alley

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in a brutal dog shooting.

A pitbull terrier mix was shot five times at close range and left to die in a Phoenix alley.

A family discovered the animal, still alive, at 16th Street and McDowell Road on Sunday afternoon. Vets went to work trying to save him, but the wounds were too severe.

Doctors say the injuries show the gunman or gunmen stood a mere five feet in front of the animal and it's clear the dog was lying down.

"This is an awful attack," said Kim Noetzel with the Arizona Humane Society.

Vets said they couldn't reach some bullets because they were so far into the animal's thoracic cavity.

"It's horrifying. I'm a dog lover and this makes me want to cry." said Margo Benya, a neighbor. Police say the animal had no tags and no microchip.

If you have any information that can lead to an arrest please call 480-witness.
