SALEM, Ore. - A dog shot in the head and left to die is staging a remarkable comeback.
A hunter found Bullet, a 3- or 4-year-old male pit bull, a week ago in the woods near Gates, Ore. He was nearly starved to death.
Veterinarians determined that Bullet had been shot in the left eye, and the bullet lodged in his jaw. It appeared that he'd been in the woods for some time.
"By his body condition he was so emaciated and dehydrated. It was anywhere from, I would say, three weeks to a month of being outside," Phyllis Morris of the Marion County Dog Shelter told KOIN News 6.
Bullet will stay in the shelter until he gains enough weight to undergo surgery to remove the bullet. He could be up for adoption in about a month.
