Veterinary services are very expensive and, often, cost prohibitive. The high costs deter owners from obtaining necessary vaccinations and desirable spay/neuter surgeries for their pets. Understanding the conflict of loving their dog but not being financially able to afford veterinary medical services, it has been a goal of For the Love of Pits® to help owners of pit bulls who are unable to afford vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery. On May 3, 2009, For the Love of Pits had its very first large, organized fundraiser!!! The fundraiser was held at Post 58 in Tremont and the owners were kind enough to donate the space. Four of our devoted volunteers, Angie Janics, Kim Wilson, Marisa Dalessandro and Sandy Smith, planned and successfully executed the Spay-getti Dinner. We were expecting approximately 100 people to attend the three hour event. We were pleasantly surprised when over 200 people showed up and stayed the entire time. Guests bid on items donated items from businesses and ate Spaghetti, salad, rolls and an array of desserts, while meeting new like-minded people.
