Thin Slice This, Baby - Dog Owners Determined Outcome In Local Elections
Since many of these yoyo's will be asking you to rehire them this fall, I had a laugh-out-loud realization about two recent races that may portend the future in places where breed specific legislation and other anti-dog measures are on the table.
The election results of these races tell me that you, loyal readers, and you alone - went to the polls and sent these candidates a very clear message.......... My Dog Votes!
Defeated
Jackie Speier - Candidate
for Lt. Governor in California -
Author of SB 861 (infamous bill
allowing breed-specific measures in
a state that prohibits them)
Jackie Speier and her supporters angered dog owners not just in California, but across the country and across the aisle. She especially pissed off dog-owning members of her own party, prompting letters that said:
"I have voted for you in the past and I very well might have done so again last Tuesday except for one thing - SB 861. That absolutely wrong-headed bill shows a total lack of understanding of canine ethology and a willingness to capitalize on a family's personal tragedy for political gain, trampling the rights of all California dog owners in the process. I know dozens of Democrats among my fellow dog enthusiasts who also did not vote for you for exactly the same reason".
Jackie lost her bid to become Lt. Governor in the California Democratic primary earlier this year. Bye Bye, Jackie!
Flip Flop Fever
Darryl Dexter - New
Democratic Party Leader, Nova Scotia
In a hotly contested provincial race in Nova Scotia, Canada, where Ontario's province-wide breed ban in Ontario has pushed the issue of breed specific legislation onto the front burner throughout the country, New Democratic Party Leader Darryl Dexter told the leading papers that "Personally, I Support Breed-Specific Legislation".
Darry Dexter's position
supporting BSL caused such furor
amongst dog-owners that his position
even endangered the outcome of races
of other members of his own party.
Three day's later, Mr. Dexter issued a statement to the paper, saying he did not support breed-specific legislation and that his "secretary made a mistake" with the quote. Yeah, right.
By flip-flopping on his position
on breed bans, Darryl Dexter
saved
his own sorry ass in that race, as
well as the political careers of
candidates running on the New
Democratic Party Platform.
Note To Candidates
