Who We Are:
We are a very small organization.
We choose our dogs very, very selectively.
We DO NOT have a shelter.
We DO NOT accept owner surrenders.
For the Love of Pits® is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization run exclusively by volunteers and funded solely by private donations.
We focus our rescue efforts on homeless pit bulls. The dogs we rescue often have experienced the most horrific abuse at the hands of, or severe neglect by, humans.
Our mission is to restore, preserve and protect the prestigious legacy of the pit bull dog and to improve the environment in which pit bulls and their owners live, by:
Why Pit Bulls?
Melvin before. The answer to this question is twofold. First, pit bulls are truly amazing and inspirational animals. They put their heart and soul into everything they do. They are exceedingly people friendly, even with strangers, and are extraordinarily affectionate and devoted. As soon as they see someone, the tail-wagging begins, almost seeming to lift their back ends high off the ground. They are an exceptionally happy, gregarious, confident and determined dog, being both highly intelligent and easily trainable. Pit bulls excel at everything they do, and their zest for life is contagious. A dog with a sense of humor, pit bulls routinely keep their owners laughing at their antics. Human-like in their ability to both communicate and bond, pit bulls are known to inspire lifelong loyalty in their owners.
Second, pit bulls are subjected to cruelty, abuse and mistreatment both to a degree and on a scale that no other breed has ever had to endure. They are victimized by an undeserved reputation created by abusive owners, criminals, irresponsible owners and, of course, the media. There is no dog more in need of our compassion, help and advocacy. For the Love of Pits works with very little support to save their lives and create a better future for the dogs and their owners.
